Gran Paradiso 4061 m Stage – Three Days of Mountaineering
Three days of mountaineering between Mont Blanc and Gran Paradiso, from glacier terrain to exposed ground and the final ascent to the summit.
The Gran Paradiso Stage is a three-day program designed for those who want to experience the ascent of Gran Paradiso in a more complete way, combining a glacier training day, specific work on rocky and exposed terrain and the final ascent to the summit.
Over three days, the program crosses two of the most representative mountain groups in Aosta Valley: Mont Blanc and Gran Paradiso. The itinerary allows participants to gain greater awareness before the final ascent, progressively approaching some key elements of high-altitude mountaineering.

Medium technical difficulty
More complex and exposed terrain. Requires good movement skills on snow and ice up to 45° and rock passages up to UIAA grade IV.
High technical difficulty
Very complex and exposed terrain. Requires solid experience on snow and ice slopes beyond 45°, possible use of two ice axes, and rock passages above UIAA grade IV.
Low physical difficulty
Daily elevation gain up to 400–500 m. Approximate activity time: 3–4 hours.
Medium physical difficulty
Daily elevation gain up to 800–1,000 m. Approximate activity time: 5–7 hours.
High physical difficulty
Daily elevation gain up to 1,400–1,800 m.
SKI MOUNTAINEERING TERRAIN
Low technical difficulty
Requires the ability to ski with parallel turns on black runs. No specific ski mountaineering or off-piste experience required.
Medium technical difficulty
Requires prior ski mountaineering and/or off-piste experience. Ability to ski in a controlled manner on all snow types on slopes up to 35°.

BOOKING SUMMARY
Gran Paradiso, at 4,061 metres, is the only 4,000-metre peak entirely within Italian territory. It is a symbolic mountain of Aosta Valley and represents one of the first major high-altitude experiences for many mountaineers.
This stage offers a richer formula than the classic two-day ascent. The aim is not only to reach the summit, but to experience a more complete progression, where the final ascent comes after two days of technical and environmental preparation.
The first day takes place in the Mont Blanc area, with a day dedicated to glacier progression, the use of crampons and ice axe, rope-team management and basic crevasse rescue techniques.
On the second day, the program moves to Valsavarenche, where the work continues on rocky and exposed terrain along the Voi du Paradis via ferrata, before the ascent to the hut. This day allows participants to experience a different environment, useful for improving movement on steeper terrain, confidence with exposure and continuity of effort.
The third day is dedicated to the ascent of Gran Paradiso. The progression takes place on trail, moraine terrain, glacier and final ridge, with an ascent that requires good physical preparation, steady rhythm and the ability to adapt to mountain conditions.
The program may be modified according to weather, mountain conditions, logistics and the technical level of the participants.
Day 1 – Glacier training in the Mont Blanc area
Meeting with the Mountain Guide, initial briefing and personal equipment check.
Ascent with Skyway Monte Bianco to Punta Helbronner, at 3,462 metres, and access to the glacier. The day is dedicated to rope-team progression on glacier terrain, correct use of crampons and ice axe, rope techniques and basic crevasse rescue exercises.
The aim is to acquire the basic technical skills needed to move with greater awareness in a glacier environment and to better understand rope-team management.
Return to the valley and overnight stay in accommodation.
Day 2 – Voi du Paradis via ferrata and ascent to the hut
Transfer to Valsavarenche and climb of the Voi du Paradis via ferrata.
The day is useful for working on exposure and movement on equipped rocky terrain. Although not technically difficult, it allows participants to experience terrain different from the glacier and to prepare in the best possible way for the final rocky section of Gran Paradiso.
In the afternoon, ascent to the Vittorio Emanuele II Hut or the Federico Chabod Hut, depending on the chosen itinerary, availability and logistics.
Dinner and overnight stay in the hut.
Day 3 – Ascent of Gran Paradiso 4061 m
Departure before dawn for the ascent of Gran Paradiso.
After an initial section on trail and moraine-rocky terrain, the route reaches the glacier. From here, the ascent continues roped up towards the upper part of the itinerary, up to the final ridge and the summit of Gran Paradiso, at 4,061 metres.
The descent follows the planned route, with return to the valley in the early afternoon.
Program note
The program described is a reference structure. Itineraries, daily plans and objectives may be modified according to weather, mountain conditions, hut availability, logistics and the level of the participants.

Any changes will always be discussed with the participants before being applied.
