Ski Touring in Tromsø and Lyngen – One Week Beyond the Arctic Circle
A week of ski touring in Northern Norway, based in an apartment and moving daily by car between Tromsø, fjords and the Lyngen Alps.
A week of ski touring beyond the Arctic Circle, based in Tromsø.
The program includes daily ski touring outings chosen according to snow, weather, wind and visibility conditions, with ascents often starting close to the sea and descents towards fjords, valleys and small villages of Northern Norway.
Unlike the Ski & Sail formula, this trip is organised with a land-based setup: accommodation in equipped apartments, car transfers and daily choice of the most suitable area. It is a solid and flexible way to experience Northern Norway with simple logistics, while keeping the possibility to adapt the itinerary to real conditions each day.

Medium technical difficulty
More complex and exposed terrain. Requires good movement skills on snow and ice up to 45° and rock passages up to UIAA grade IV.
High technical difficulty
Very complex and exposed terrain. Requires solid experience on snow and ice slopes beyond 45°, possible use of two ice axes, and rock passages above UIAA grade IV.
Low physical difficulty
Daily elevation gain up to 400–500 m. Approximate activity time: 3–4 hours.
Medium physical difficulty
Daily elevation gain up to 800–1,000 m. Approximate activity time: 5–7 hours.
High physical difficulty
Daily elevation gain up to 1,400–1,800 m.

BOOKING SUMMARY
The Troms region is one of the most interesting areas for ski touring in Northern Norway. The mountains rise directly from the sea, the elevation gains are moderate but continuous, and the environment changes quickly between fjords, open slopes, more sheltered valleys and panoramic summits overlooking the ocean.
The trip is designed for ski tourers with good experience who are interested in a dynamic and adaptable week. Each day, the outing is chosen according to snow, weather, wind, visibility and group level.
Some days may take place in the areas close to Tromsø, while others may take place on the Lyngen peninsula or in areas reachable by car transfers and local ferries.
The apartment-and-car formula allows good flexibility: each morning starts with an assessment of the most suitable area, without being tied to a fixed itinerary. This approach is particularly important in Norway, where conditions can change quickly and the quality of the experience depends on choosing the right terrain at the right moment.
The trip combines ski touring with everyday life in the North: shared apartments, grocery shopping and self-catering, transfers between fjords and villages, long days and a distinctive light that accompanies the whole week.
Day 1 – Arrival in Tromsø
Individual arrival at Tromsø airport, meeting with the Guide, rental car pick-up and accommodation in an apartment.
Initial briefing, equipment check, grocery planning and preparation for the week.
Days 2–4 – Ski touring in the areas around Tromsø
First ski touring days in the most suitable areas according to conditions.
Possible outings in the areas close to Tromsø, with itineraries chosen daily according to snow, weather, wind, visibility and group level.
The summits mentioned in the documentation or pre-trip communications are examples and not guaranteed objectives.
Days 5–7 – Lyngen Alps and northern fjords
Transfer or daily movements towards the Lyngen Alps and surrounding areas.
The days may include ascents starting close to the sea, itineraries on open slopes, more sheltered valleys or panoramic summits.
The program remains flexible and is adapted to conditions and the group.
Day 8 – Return
Return to Tromsø, rental car drop-off and departure of the participants.
Good ski touring experience and autonomy in ascent and descent techniques are required.
Participants must be used to moving on ungroomed snow, managing kick turns, skiing down in variable conditions and handling days with indicative elevation gains generally between 800 and 1,200 metres.
The trip is not designed for those approaching ski touring for the first time. Good physical fitness, adaptability and willingness to face days that may differ in snow quality, visibility, wind, transfers and timing are important.
Advanced mountaineering skills are not required, but crampons and a light ice axe may be useful for some ascents or for managing short harder or more exposed sections, if planned by the Guide.
