Ski Touring Ascent of a 4000 m Peak – 2 Days
Two days to reach a 4000-metre summit on skis, between Gran Paradiso and Monte Rosa, choosing the itinerary best suited to the conditions of the moment.
Two days dedicated to the ascent of a 4000-metre summit on skis. Depending on the conditions, the itinerary may take place on Gran Paradiso or on one of the summits of Monte Rosa, such as Piramide Vincent, Punta Zumstein or Capanna Margherita.

DIFFICULTY LEVELS
The system uses two distinct parameters for each itinerary:
- Technical difficulty
- Physical difficulty (Fitness)
Both are divided into three levels: Low – Medium – High.
ALPINE TERRAIN
Low technical difficulty
Itinerary on rocky and/or snowy terrain, generally not very steep. May include short stretches on snow slopes up to 35°–40° and simple rock passages up to UIAA grade II.
Medium technical difficulty
More complex and exposed terrain. Requires good movement skills on snow and ice up to 45° and rock passages up to UIAA grade IV.
High technical difficulty
Very complex and exposed terrain. Requires solid experience on snow and ice slopes beyond 45°, possible use of two ice axes, and rock passages above UIAA grade IV.
Low physical difficulty
Daily elevation gain up to 400–500 m. Approximate activity time: 3–4 hours.
Medium physical difficulty
Daily elevation gain up to 800–1,000 m. Approximate activity time: 5–7 hours.
High physical difficulty
Daily elevation gain up to 1,400–1,800 m.
SKI MOUNTAINEERING TERRAIN
Low technical difficulty
Requires the ability to ski with parallel turns on black runs. No specific ski mountaineering or off-piste experience required.
Medium technical difficulty
Requires prior ski mountaineering and/or off-piste experience. Ability to ski in a controlled manner on all snow types on slopes up to 35°.
High technical difficulty
Requires full ski control on all snow types on slopes steeper than 35°. May include alpine sections requiring the use of ice axe and crampons.
Low physical difficulty
Trips with elevation gain under 800 m.
Medium physical difficulty
Trips with elevation gain between 800 and 1,200 m.
High physical difficulty
Trips with elevation gain over 1,200 m.

Description
Climbing a 4000-metre peak on skis is one of the most complete experiences in spring ski touring at high altitude. This two-day program is designed for those who already have good ski touring experience and wish to tackle an important summit with a clear and well-defined objective.
At the time of booking, it will be possible to indicate the preferred objective between Gran Paradiso and Monte Rosa; the program will then be adapted to the actual conditions of the moment. Possible objectives include Piramide Vincent, Punta Zumstein and Capanna Margherita.
While keeping an essential structure, the program retains all the character of high-altitude ski touring: approach to the hut, departure before dawn and progression on glacier terrain.
Program
Day 1 – Approach to the hut
Meeting with the Guide, equipment check and discussion of the expected conditions for the ascent.
Then ascent to the hut planned for the chosen itinerary: Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele II or Rifugio Chabod for Gran Paradiso, Rifugio Mantova or Rifugio Gnifetti for Monte Rosa.
Evening briefing on timing and the line of ascent for the following day.
Day 2 – Ascent of the 4000 m peak and return
Departure before dawn for the ascent of the chosen summit.
Progression on glacier terrain and return to the valley after the descent.
Prerequisites
Good ski touring experience, good ability to ski down variable snow and experience with days involving indicative elevation gains of up to 1,300 metres are required.
Confidence in glaciated terrain, familiarity with the use of avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe, and knowledge of the main avalanche self-rescue procedures are recommended.

The price varies according to the number of participants:
1 person: €900
2 people: €475 / person
3 people: €330 / person
4 people: €260 / person
The price includes
- IFMGA Mountain Guide service for 2 days.
- Professional liability insurance of the Guide.
The price does not include
- Overnight stay and half-board in the mountain hut.
- Half-board for the Guide in the mountain hut, to be shared among the participants.
- Any lifts, if required for the chosen itinerary.
- Transfers and travel expenses.
- Rental of individual equipment, if needed.
- Personal accident or cancellation insurance.
- Anything not listed under “The price includes”.
Equipment
The activity requires full ski touring equipment, including skis, skins, ski touring boots, ski crampons, avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe, crampons, ice axe, harness and helmet.
